It is Sunday morning and AC and I are enjoying a relaxing morning catching up on email and blogs while the girls enjoy a sleep-in.

The sun was shining when I first rolled over and greeted the day around 6am but I quickly shut my eyes again, and when I next saw daylight at 8am the clouds had rolled in. Looks like another cool cloudy day, but at least it isn’t raining. It POURED ALL day yesterday and we were OUT in it. That’s what people do around here, they don’t let the rain stop them, so we joined in the fun too. We donned hats and coats, shoes and socks, grabbed umbrellas and we were off. It really was pouring, and all of our protection didn’t do much good, but it did keep my head dry. My feet got wet, rain started to soak through the shoulders of my jacket because with AC and I under one umbrella, shoulders and backs where always hanging out, and we were rather damp and bedraggled at the end of the day, but only in body, spirits were high, and we had a wonderful day with The A-Team.

After a delicious brunch at Sophie’s – a very popular restaurant in Kits (a trendy shopping area) we set off for the Aquarium in Stanley Park. We thought it was a good choice for a rainy day, but everyone else in Vancouver seemed to have the same idea and it was CROWDED indeed. They also have a big outdoor display and being the brave tourists that we are, we headed outside to see the porpoises, dolphins, beluga whales, and sea otters. It was pouring even harder when we were doing our outdoor tour  but the crowds milled around all the displays and it made for a memorable day even if a rather soggy one.

We hit the gift shop on the way out and I bought an umbrella!!!! AC and I just couldn’t continue to share our small travel one, and I had often looked at the pretty art umbrellas at the Art Gallery and wanted to buy myself one but hadn’t. This seemed like the perfect time to indulge in one and bring all the memories of this day home with me and unfurl all the happy times of today each time I have to walk in the rain in the future. So, I am very pleased with my purchase. I would have liked to get one with a fish design, but the prettiest one had a butterfly on it, so I went with that one. Now, let it rain, let it rain, let it rain. I am ready!

AC posted these extra pictures of our trip to Lynn Canyon, so I thought I would share them with you before I sign off for the day.

This huge tree seemed to be growing out of a boulder but when we walked around the other side of it we saw that the roots were finding their way into the soil. Amazing!

Day 3

The trees are sooooooo tall and the roots systems are absolutely amazing.

Day 3

For fun, AC and I posed inside these rotting stumps in the forest. I thought the pics might give you an idea of the size of the trees, but I just couldn’t capture it on camera.

Well then, I guess if we’re in Vancouver, we might as well experience West Coast rain, and we have done just, my dears. That’s what it did today — rain — all the livelong, everlovin’ day. What we discovered was that Vancouverites go out in the rain, but I guess you have to do just that when you live out here. Raincoats are donned, umbrellas are unfurled, and the good folk slog about their business.

For us, business included a late brunch in Kit, or Kitsilano, followed by a trip to the Vancouver Aquarium. There, we met much of the rest of Vancouver. I guess we all figured that we might as well be at an indoor exhibit involving water on such a wet day outside.

Well, we discovered that, despite the crowds, the aquarium, which is located in Stanley Park, is quite a wonderful place, that I’m quite glad we got to see. Yes, we took some pictures although they’re all on Cuppa’s camera as I forgot mine in the car, and I wasn’t about to scramble through the deluge one more time just to retrieve it. The first pic is of Puff, sort of inside one of the tanks, and I think that the rest are self-explanatory.

Have a good rest of the weekend, eh? And we’ll try to do likewise.
